The Journey

From linens to lipsticks.

Where it began

One of Harlin's fondest childhood memories is watching her mother get glammed up each evening. Those quiet moments — a mother and daughter bonding over beauty — planted a seed that would grow into a life's work.

Age 17 · A turning point
"Life is short and unpredictable — there's no point waiting for the right time to follow your dreams."

After the sudden loss of her father at seventeen, Harlin launched a home-based linen business to support her family — a venture that returned nearly 30x profit and gave her the confidence to build something of her own.

Building the craft

Over 13+ years she shaped some of India's best-known beauty names — Velvette, SUGAR Cosmetics, Unilever / Lakmé, and Nykaa's private label — pairing global beauty codes with a sharp read of where the Indian consumer was underserved.

A personal reason

Having battled rosacea and dermatitis herself, Harlin knew first-hand how few makeup products were truly safe for reactive, breakout-prone skin. That experience became the conviction behind House of Makeup — beauty that works with sensitive skin, not against it.

2019 → today · House of Makeup

She founded House of Makeup to close that gap. The brand weathered the pandemic by pivoting fully online, relaunched in June 2023 on pre-Series A funding, and today spans 10 product families and 50+ SKUs across face, lips and eyes.

The Mission

India's first non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic makeup brand.

House of Makeup is built on a simple belief: makeup should make you feel more confident without worsening the skin concerns you already worry about — clogged pores, irritation, sensitivity, acne- and rosacea-prone skin. Skin safety is the starting point, not an afterthought.

01

Non-comedogenic

Built on a clear promise: makeup that does not clog pores or trigger common post-makeup breakouts — even for acne- and rosacea-prone skin.

02

Hypoallergenic & clean

Irritant-free, vegan and cruelty-free, formulated to the European standard that bans over 1,300 toxic ingredients. Safe enough for every day.

03

High performance

Coverage, finish, wear and shade payoff are non-negotiable. Safety never comes at the cost of how beautifully a product performs.

04

Skincare within

Infused with regenerative actives — hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, goji berry, SPF — so makeup cares for skin while it wears.

05

Made for Indian skin

Designed for Indian tones, undertones, skin types and weather — real relevance, not a global formula adapted as an afterthought.

06

Accessible premium

A premium formulation and experience held at a price — an ASP around ₹700 — that keeps the brand within reach for modern India.

"Makeup that does not ask you to choose between beauty and skin comfort."

The House of Makeup promise
Clinically Proven

Claims you can trust, backed by testing.

The strongest product stories aren't only claimed — they're substantiated. House of Makeup backs its hero Face Anything Luminous Skin Tint with third-party dermatological and comedogenicity testing, moving beyond generic "clean beauty" language to clinically supported claims.

HRIPT · Dermatological safety

Tested across 12 shades, 100 completed subjects.

The Luminous Skin Tint (with hyaluronic acid, goji berry, niacinamide & SPF 25+++) was evaluated across normal, dry, oily and combination skin under dermatologist supervision — with no clinically significant irritation, allergic reaction or delayed sensitisation observed under controlled testing.

Follicular biopsy · Comedogenicity

Comedogenicity evaluated against controls.

A follicular biopsy study ran over ~4 weeks under occlusive conditions, comparing the test product against positive and negative controls — substantiating the non-comedogenic positioning at the product level, not just the ingredient level.

A rare proof point in Indian makeup: connecting a consumer promise — makeup that doesn't clog pores — to real product-level testing.
